Fear of Falling

Nervous of letting go, the rail clutched in white knuckles

Feeling feeble, broken, the wind rushing over your legs, a single step between flying

A single step between flying and falling, and the fear of the ground pulling you down stronger than the sky pulls you upwards.

Slump back against the wall and watch as up above they twirl in the breeze

You tell yourself it would all be so easy if you’d been given wings too.
